Law Enforcement Agencies Across the U.S. Launch Five-Day Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative

In a crucial effort to combat human trafficking, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is collaborating with law enforcement agencies across the United States for a five-day initiative to raise awareness and educate the public. The Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI) will take place from January 13 through 17, 2025, marking the CVSA’s first initiative of the year.

The primary goal of HTAI is to inform commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers and the general public about the crime of human trafficking. Participants will learn to recognize the signs of trafficking and understand the appropriate actions to take if they suspect someone is being victimized.

During this five-day initiative, various law enforcement jurisdictions, motor carriers and transportation safety organizations will engage in special enforcement and educational activities designed to amplify awareness of human trafficking. Some of the planned activities include:

  • Distributing human trafficking informational materials to drivers during inspections, allowing them to review important information while they wait.
  • Observing and engaging with passengers in trucks to identify potential signs of human trafficking.
  • Handing out flyers and wallet cards and providing information to the public at key locations such as truck stops, city halls, train and bus stations, ports of entry, Department of Motor Vehicle offices, and weigh/inspection stations.

Following the U.S. initiative, HTAI will also occur in Canada from February 17 to 21, 2025, and in Mexico from March 17 to 21, 2025.

Human trafficking is a serious issue that affects countless individuals, and awareness is the first step toward prevention.
