ATRI Seeks Insights on Evolving Truck Driver Demographics

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is undertaking research to analyze the demographics of the U.S. truck driver population and how these demographics have evolved over time. By examining over 20 years of survey data, ATRI aims to gather the latest information on the current composition of truck drivers, allowing for a comparison of changing trends.

This concise survey will explore both professional and personal aspects of today’s truck drivers, helping ATRI identify shifts within the driver population over the past few decades. All data collected will remain completely confidential.

This survey aligns with ATRI’s broader research initiatives focused on recruiting underrepresented groups into the trucking industry, including women, individuals from foster care backgrounds, and those who have been formerly incarcerated.

“As a driver with 33 years on the road, I have seen our driver workforce change over time.  Understanding what the truck driver population looks like today is crucial to ensuring that our needs are properly addressed – whether through support, training, or policies that are specifically tailored to truck drivers.  This survey will provide valuable insights into the driver community and highlight areas where we can continue to grow,” said Richard Frazer, an America’s Road Team Captain and professional driver with Walmart Transportation.
